With the arrival of December, the face of Sin City takes on a whole new sheen. A bevy of year-end events unfold, many of them centered around the holidays, giving…and of course, the rodeo.

National Finals Rodeo sweeps into Las Vegas December 3-12. With it comes an ocean of cowboy hats as far as the eye can see. NFR is one of the biggest celebrations of the year, and just about every Strip and downtown resort is dangling bait to lure in the lasso-loving crowd.

NFR stay-and-play packages are a big thing for Vegas hotels. They offer room discounts, copies of the official souvenir programs, dining discounts, viewing parties and tickets for the rodeo itself.

The Thomas and Mack Center at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) is the official host for the rodeo. Tickets are on sale for the nightly events, which begin at 6:45pm. Prices start at $74 and can be purchased by clicking here.

South Point Hotel Casino is traditionally a big draw for NFR guests and activities. They have an elaborate Equestrian Center with 1,200 climate-controlled stalls, a 4,600 seat equestrian arena and a pavilion with two show floors.

  • He and Frank Sinatra were good friends, and in an interview, Vic admitted that he tried to mimic Sinatra. As he became better known, and sorta joined a list of Italian singers who dominated the air-waves, Sinatra praised Damone as one of the purest singers in the business; 'He has the best pipes in the business,' Frank is quoted as saying.
  • The casino floor had begun filling up with folks sporting cowboy hats and boots though the official kickoff to the National Finals Rodeo lies 3 days in the future. Dec 3 – My VP session this morning was one to remember as I hit not only my #2 quad deuces of the trip, but a natural royal flush, my first in almost 3 years.

Orleans Arena, Las Vegas Convention Center, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Golden Nugget, Excalibur and Palms all have events listed on the official NFR Experience schedule.

Dozens of entertainers flock to Vegas during the 10-day rodeo. Concerts by LeAnn Rimes, Tanya Tucker, Rodney Carrington, Josh Turner, Sam Hunt, Bill Engvall and many more will take place around the city. Click here for the frequently-updated schedule.

In the spirit of giving, several pop-up shows will be taking place before Christmas. Charity is the theme, and Vegas entertainers love to put on a show to support their favorite community services.

Tropicana will be the location for 'It's A Wonderful Vegas Life', a concert event mixing elements from the perennial favorite with a salute to Frank Sinatra's 100th birthday. Proceeds from the special one-night-only performance will support the efforts of Toys for Tots and the KLUC 98.5 FM toy drive.

Hosted by local favorite Ben Stone and American Idol‘s popular Jasmine Trias, the show includes appearances by master impressionist Rich Little, Golden Globe winner Pia Zadora, 'Shades of Sinatra' and many more.

Stunning singer Ruby Lewis, fresh from her appearance with Cirque du Soleil at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, is returning to Vegas after a brief tour with Human Nature. Ruby's currently performing with the Aussie quartet for their own Christmas show, and will be appearing in Tropicana's holiday spectacular, too.

'It's A Wonderful Vegas Life' takes place at the Tropicana Showroom on Saturday December 12th at 8pm. Prices start at $20 and can be purchased via this link.

Monday December 14th will be the second anniversary celebration of Mondays Dark, the monthly charity show spearheaded by Rock Of Ages star Mark Shunock (see my recent write-up on Mark and the cast here). I attended the first anniversary celebration last year on behalf of VegasChatter, and it was indeed the philanthropic event of the year.

For the second anniversary, Mark and his team have rounded up another group of talented and stunning performers. 100 percent of ticket proceeds go to the eleven featured charities selected for 2015, including Orion Cancer Center, Blind Center of Nevada, the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Las Vegas and Las Vegas Labrador Rescue.

Mondays Dark Second Anniversary takes place at The Joint music venue inside Hard Rock Hotel on December 14th at 8pm. Tickets start at $20 and can be ordered here. Doors open at 7pm.

Prolific burlesque singer Melody Sweets of Absinthe has kept this page busy with her various pop-up shows to benefit charity. This Christmas she's giving back in a bawdy way with the release of her saucy new single 'Santa, Maybe'.
